Bible Detectives…

Mary, project leader of Groundbreakers, was asked to visit a school on behalf of The Bible Society, it turned out to be one of the schools who had started watching the Groundbreakers Online Assemblies during lockdown.

When The Bible Society emailed to ask if I would be up for speaking to a school in Tameside about why the Bible is such a special book to Christians and the work of the Bible Society, I jumped at the chance!!

And what a great time we had… listening to the story of Mary Jones and hearing how her desire to have a Bible of her own led to the formation of the Bible Society back in 1804, looking at Bibles in different languages and being detectives looking for clues as to what language each one was written in.

We also heard the story of Granny Long who lived in China during the Cultural Revolution and who hid her Bible in a pigsty, and of Ram, a member of the Dalit people in India, whose life was transformed because he heard the Bible being read…

It was a great morning that ended with a little girl coming up to me and saying, “I’ve not read my Bible at home. I’m going to read it now!” I pray that she does!

I do what I do because my Dad read the Bible to me, and what a privilege it was this morning to be able to talk about why indeed the Bible is SUCH a special book!!
