Reading Mark's Gospel generates lively discussion and many questions!
Nick introduces us to the latest Christianity Explored course at HMP Buckley Hall.
There is a challenge here in today’s news item from our On the Wing project for all of us. Could you meet a non-Christian friend or two for coffee once a week and read Mark’s Gospel over a couple of months? If you started now it would be Easter when you finished and with prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit at work you might see the Kingdom of God extended.
Nick Stirling, our On the Wing Chaplain, tells us of the work at HMP Buckley Hall;
Last week we held the first session of our latest course “Christianity Explored.” It was well attended and well received. We had eleven prisoners in total and everyone was keen to engage with us.
Christianity Explored is similar in some ways to the Alpha course. However the videos are shorter. Also, after we have watched the video, each session then involves the group reading through a portion of Mark's gospel. As we do so we discuss the various topics we come across in the Scripture passage. This makes for lively discussion and many questions as we go. Eventually, after six weeks the group will have read all the way through Mark!
Some of those attending are familiar to us having been through our previous course “Living With Loss” and it is evident that those attending are genuinely interested and have a real hunger to know more of God.
The courses are held every Monday from 2pm to 3pm. Please pray that God will continue to bless this work and that the men will come to know Christ as their Saviour.
