He just wanted to be close to God…
Ryan who serves in our Nourish project was surprised last week as a gentleman walked into St Thomas’s church where we have the project on Mondays and Thursdays and asked if he could sit in the church as he just wanted to be near God.
Ryan picks up the story.
I was helping out in the Food Club when one of our volunteers approached me and said that there was a man that wanted to sit in the church, he wanted to be close to God. I approached the man and asked him if he would like me to sit with him and pray. He said yes as he didn’t know how to pray.
As you can imagine this opened it up for me to be able to give him the full Gospel. We sat for an hour as I explained the full Bible from Genesis to Revelation, explaining that everything that has been created has a manual and how God created us and the Bible is our manual. The man had never had God explained to him like this and wanted to know more. We explored sin and how that leads to death (Romans 6:23) but we serve a merciful God that loves us and wants us to be in a relationship with him (John 17:3).
I also told him that if we confess the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God has raised him from the dead then we will be saved (Romans 10:9). You could see that this man was ready to receive Jesus, I then lead him in a prayer of repentance and pray for him to receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:17). This was an amazing thing that God was doing. The man felt like something had lifted off him and he felt light and free. I was able to tell him that whoever the son sets free is free indeed (John 8:36). I then directed him to a church. I also give him details of where we have our Drop-ins so he would be able to come for fellowship.
We will continue to support this gentleman on his new journey.
