Dave, our Operations Support Co-ordinator, was volunteering with Groundbreakers on Friday at the Experience Easter event in Saddleworth. How did he get on?

He really enjoyed the day, helping us set up and then running one of the stations. We thought we'd ask him for his thoughts in his words.

Dave says...

I had a great day on Friday. The link between the Christians in Saddleworth, the local primary school and the local nursery which is where the Experience Easter event took place, is really good. It's interesting because unlike lots of the primary schools in Saddleworth, this is not a 'church' school, but Groundbreakers and other Christians are made very welcome.

The Year 4 class we met were excellent. They were so well behaved and had already been thinking about Easter in school, so they engaged really well with each station and had lots of really thoughtful questions. They were an absolute credit to their teacher, the school and their families.

I was leading the 'Cross' station and it was really difficult to complete everything because the children grasped the enormity of what happened to Jesus and were asking lots of 'Why' questions. One of the girls said to her friend as they sat down at my station, "I'm going to ask my question straight away..." and as I started she asked, "Why do we call it Good Friday when it's such a horrible thing we are remembering?" At the very end of the afternoon in front of the whole class, she was able to answer the question for herself and clearly explained that it's Good Friday because we are remembering that Jesus died for us and all the wrong stuff we have done.

I loved being out 'on the road' with Groundbreakers and look forward to future opportunities to volunteer.
