Have You Ever Felt Truly Desperate?

From Despair To Hope...

I was called recently to attend a Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting with a prisoner “D.” He was greatly distressed and has made a serious and calculated attempt at suicide. He planned it weeks in advance, saving up a stash of painkillers and then overdosing on them. Fortunately he came to the attention of the prison officers and was rushed to hospital. When he returned to the prison he was put on a “constant watch.” For my part I offered chaplaincy support alongside the mental health team, the family liaison team and the wing staff.

He told me he had a Christian belief but had not been attending chapel. At the end of my shift I put “D” on my On The Wing WhatsApp prayer group asking them to pray for him. The following week I made a point of visiting him in his cell and he was worlds better! He presented well and was in a much brighter, happier state. He says he no longer had thoughts of suicide and had returned to his job in the workshops. He said also that he is going to start attending chapel. Praise the Lord for such a wonderful turn around!

Please pray for him to come through fully to know Christ as his Saviour.
