A friendly smile and a listening ear, all part of a Groundbreakers team members day...
Groundbreakers go into schools to deliver assemblies and lunch clubs, but they become more than just visitors.
Mary tells the story.
This morning, Mary was taking an assembly in an Oldham school. She had arrived early and was waiting outside the school hall where children were filing out of Breakfast Club.
One by one the children said, "Morning Mary", or "Are you taking assembly today?" Some said "YAY!!" and others simply gave her a big welcoming smile.
One girl came out and Mary said good morning to her, but the girl shook her head. "Is it not a good morning? "Mary asked and she shook her head again. "Why is that?" asked Mary, and the girl shared something of what had been happening that morning. Mary was able to ask if she had told someone about it in school and praised her when she said she had.
Once again, what an awesome privilege it was for her to simply be there and for the children to know they can talk to her not just about what she does in school but personal stuff too.
