He was brought down for some quiet time and was ready to receive Christ...

I was speaking today with a young man in the chapel at one of the prisons I work in.

He was brought down to us at the suggestion of one of the other chaplains. Continually being plagued by anxious thoughts and concerns about his family on the outside, he needed some peace and respite from the hustle and bustle on his wing and he said he wanted some time in a quiet place to “get his head together.” We made him a coffee and I was asked to have a chat with him

He eventually told me that he came from a Christian background and his family, particularly his mum, had shared the gospel with him from an early age but he had never actually come to the place of receiving Christ as his own Saviour and Lord.

I told him that he could find perfect peace and rest in Jesus. I then took him through the “New Life” booklet which I have adopted for use in such situations, explaining again all about sin, Jesus' death on the cross, His resurrection and the new life He now offers to all who will come to him in repentance and faith.

When we came to the page containing a short prayer for those who wanted to give their life to the Lord, he told me that this is what he wanted to do. I then prayed with him and led him in receiving Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. I left him with a Bible and showed him the follow-up section of the booklet and spoke to him about his ongoing walk with the Lord. I didn't get any more time with him because he then had to return to his cell.

Please pray for S that his salvation experience will be real and that he will come to the regular chapel services and grow from strength to strength in the Lord.
