Significant Gospel Conversation
Nick, our On The Wing Chaplain, tells us about a recent conversation with a group of young men.
On one of my regular visits to HMP Buckley Hall last Monday I was asked by the Chaplain to visit three wings. While I was doing the rounds, as it were, I came across a group of five young prisoners chatting together on one of the landings. They had not seen me before and so I introduced myself to them and asked if there was anything the Chaplaincy could do for them.
After the usual light-hearted opening remarks I get from most prisoners (such as “Can you get me out of here?” etc.) the group settled down and began asking some serious, deep, and sincere questions about Christianity.
I was able to spend a good twenty minutes sharing with them regarding my own experience of coming to Christ and explaining the gospel message from the Scriptures. The searching questions continued throughout our conversation and I was particularly struck by the respectful way they spoke to me and by the sense of genuine enquiry in their tone.
I am praying that they will take up the offer of coming to Chapel when the services are on and that they will enroll in the next Alpha Course we run.
