God uses Groundbreakers' Tuesdays Together club to touch lives at a deep level.
Tuesdays Together is a club that runs in the early evening for primary aged children. It is competing in a very busy afterschool marketplace for children’s attention. Nevertheless, since starting in January, a small group of children come week after week for an hour.
The club is run by Groundbreakers staff and volunteers, and through games, crafts and fun, the children are pointed to Jesus each week.
At a recent session, they made Chatterboxes or Choosers, that contained questions like Would you rather be rich or beautiful? and Which famous person would you like to eat dinner with? One of the volunteers was asked, What would you like to be famous for? The volunteer replied that, rather than wanting to be famous, they would like to be remembered for making a difference in the lives of the people they worked with. To which the young person replied, “Oh, you do that already!” The volunteer must have looked puzzled because they continued by saying, “I used to go to a different group but there were two leaders there who were not very nice. I don’t go there anymore so I came here instead and met you. You’re really kind!”
Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.' (John 8:12) God has made that light shine in our hearts (2 Cor. 4:6), and when we seek to live lives that reflect the nature of Christ—His love, compassion, and forgiveness, then His light will shine through our attitudes, words, and deeds. That's what the child saw in the volunteer.
Our prayer in Groundbreakers is that Jesus' light may shine in the darkness through all we do and that children and adults will be drawn to that light.
