Our Operation Joy team have to rely on the Holy Spirit to lead them to the right people to speak to when they are out on the streets.
Ryan who works for Operation Joy, our street ministry to the homeless, was out with some volunteers last week, when they came across a young man. Ryan said “It was raining, and this young lad was wet through.”
Ryan took him under shelter and gave him a voucher for Greggs so he could get something to eat. He sat and spoke with M for quite some time, Ryan says “M was very gentle in spirit and had a lovely nature about him.”
M poured out his heart to Ryan, explaining how he needed to change, he’d had lost his father at a young age and his mother didn’t bother with him. He felt like he had no one. Ryan told him the story about the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:12-32) and M could really relate to this story as he had run away and squandered his possessions, he felt ashamed of the things he did.
Ryan explained that there is no greater love than the love of God (John 15:13) and explained the need for repentance. M wanted to give his heart to the Lord so Ryan led him in a prayer of repentance, and the team prayed for him to be filled with the Holy Spirit. God was at work in his life.
Ryan has arranged to meet up with M to see if we can get him some help through the rehabilitation centre that we work with. Ryan will continue to keep us updated on how M gets on, so please keep him in your prayers.
