"The future belongs to those who give the next generation reason for hope."
This quote by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin perhaps sums up the work of Groundbreakers perfectly.
As Mary was sat in a school hall in Oldham watching the children file in for her assembly, the Year 6 children came past. One boy stuck his hand out to shake hers and said with a big grin, "I love your assemblies Mary!"
Then, to her amazement several Year 6 boys followed suit and shook her hand! How lovely to be welcomed in that way and to know that the Year 6 children have appreciated the Groundbreakers assemblies they have heard over the years.
The assembly was all about making good choices, after much hilarity with a game of choice involving 3 boxes containing mystery items and the chosen child choosing Box B containing the carrot!!, Mary went on to tell the story of Daniel who was faced with some tricky choices in Babylon.
She reminded them that, just as God was with Daniel, so he will be with the Year 6 children as they move on and that they can ask him to help them with the tricky choices ahead.
She then prayed for them.
What a privilege it is to be able to make a difference in the lives of children in this way.
This story is not from a 'church' school, the work of Groundbreakers is for all schools and all children across Greater Manchester.
