Mary Butt

Mary loves working with children! From a young age she wanted to be a teacher, and has been teaching RE for over 30 years.

In 2006, MCM asked if Mary would start a primary school project for schools in Oldham and Groundbreakers was born. She started with two schools, offering assemblies and lunch clubs, and to date, has worked in over 50 schools across the ten boroughs, regularly seeing over 10,000 children each half-term...even through lockdown!

She passionately believes in the importance of children’s work in all its forms, beginning when she became a Christian at the age of nine through her church holiday camp. She has taught in Sunday schools, runs Christian clubs and church holiday clubs. Since the age of sixteen, she has been involved in the Criccieth Holiday Club in Wales, which she now co-leads with her husband, Dave.
