Do You have Your ID to Get Into Heaven?

12 Prisoners at HMP Forest Bank Get Their ID!

Nick, our prison chaplain and his wife Cath hosted two Sunday Services recently at HMP Forest Bank. The first service is for the general population, the second is for vulnerable prisoners referred to as VPs. It turned out to be quite a day!

The following Q&A session tells us what happened..

Q. Nick, how did this begin?

A. We arrived fired up and ready to go, then suddenly realised to our calamity, Cath had forgotten her ID.

Q. So what happened?

A. With security so stringent we knew she wouldn’t get in, but we tried anyway – to no avail – Cath was politely refused entry.

Q. Did you go in?

A. Yes, I went in but Cath had to drive home, a round trip of an hour. Meanwhile I went ahead with the first service for the general population, 22 attended.

Q. Did Cath make it back?

A. Oh yes, she made it back albeit 15 minutes before the end of first service. She arrived to the congregation asking, “where have you been?”

Cath took this opportunity – she said, without my ID there was no way they were letting me in. No matter how much I smiled, I tried to get in on Nicks ID, but I was not allowed in.

Giving a wonderfully vivid illustration of the need for our salvation, having our own experience with God. You need to be identified with Jesus Christ – He is our identity. There is no way into heaven without our ID in Christ!

Q. What was the prisoner’s response to this?

A. It immediately resonated with the whole congregation.

By the end of the first service 7 prisoners indicated their wish to accept Jesus Christ as their saviour.

By the end of the VP service where 16 attended, a further 5 prisoners on hearing Cath’s testimony indicated that they wanted to receive Christ.

We are truly grateful to have witnessed God moving in such an unusual and powerful way, using the apparent calamity to His Glory!
