In Prison But Unashamedly…
Ready to receive Christ!
Recently I spoke with a prisoner in one of my Bible groups and shared the gospel. I gave my own testimony and talked him through his need to receive Christ as his own Saviour. He told me he had had very little Christian input in his life in the past but he would seriously consider the things I had said. I felt it wouldn’t have been inappropriate for me to press him further so I left things at that. I gave him a Bible and pointed out various Scriptures. I also gave him some additional material and he said he wanted to go away and read through it.
He promised to return to the group the following week and, sure enough he did. We prayed and sang a few songs. I then shared from 1 John chapter 1 and as we closed the meeting he said he had been thinking things over through the week and was now ready to give his heart to the Lord. I then prayed with him and led him to Christ and he prayed sincerely and unashamedly with others present.
I believe it is very important for us to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. I could have pressed him into praying the week before, it is such a temptation to do so, eagerly wanting to chalk up another convert! However, God had me hold back because He was at work in the man's heart by His Holy Spirit and who are we to interfere in that work? When God does the work then we know the job really gets done!
