Is Prison Chaplaincy Just For Inmates?
“I would like a Bible, if you have one to spare.”
Please pray for a prison officer I spoke to recently. In the course of my chaplaincy rounds, a prisoner asked me for a Bible. I had some of the small New Testament and Psalms editions with me and, because I do not have keys to individual cells, I asked one of the wing staff if he could pass one on to the inmate in question. He said he would, but as I handed it to him he started thumbing through it out of interest.
I asked if he would like a Bible himself and he said he would if I had a spare one. I enquired if he was a Christian, and he said his girlfriend is and that he is looking into Christianity himself.
Because of his obvious sincerity, I felt I should get him a full Bible from the chapel. I went to get one and returned to his wing with it. I also gave him a daily devotional book. He was very grateful.
I directed him to start reading through the gospels and the Psalms and said that I (or one of the other chaplains) would be on hand should he have any further questions.
Please pray for "D". He is a really nice guy. He is very respectful and I believe he is genuine in his enquiring. Pray that the Lord will meet with him and bring him through to Salvation.
