On The Wing In Segregation?
One To One Bible Studies With A Troubled Young Man…
Some time ago a young man in HMP Hindley asked if a chaplain could come and do one to one Bible studies with him. He had been taken to the Segregation unit due to having had an altercation with a staff member on his wing. He said he is a Christian but struggles with mental health issues sometimes and things had got on top of him. He had apologised for his behaviour and now wanted to meet with a chaplain. I volunteered to take this on and went to the Segregation unit to see him. The officers brought him into a side room and I spent almost an hour with him. He engaged very positively throughout the study and when I prayed he asked if he could pray also. He shared how he was struggling with the same issue the apostle Paul speaks of in Romans chapter seven. “The good that I will to do, I do not do, but the evil I will not to do, that I do.” He was genuinely remorseful. He was soon to be taken back to his wing and he asked if we could continue with the studies there. I have been meeting with him each week ever since, for which he is grateful and is a lot calmer in a much better frame of mind. He is due for release soon and I am prayerfully looking for a suitable church for him to attend. Please pray for “J” to continue to grow strong in the Lord.
