Disappointment - His Appointment…
God’s Bigger Plan – On The Wing.
Recently, I was preparing for one of my usual Prison Bible groups when I was informed that due to staff shortages two of the prison wings would have to remain in lock-down and prisoners would have to remain “behind their doors.” I was expecting six or seven attendees but it turned out that only one was able to come. This has happened to me before and God turned things around, but I was still quite disappointed. However, once again God had another plan! The inmate who did turn up was glad of the chance to have a one-to-one chat with me. Apparently he had been seeking to know more about Christianity for years.
We spent the time chatting about his past and how he enjoyed singing the worship songs when attending chapel services in previous prisons, but he had never given his heart to Christ. I shared the gospel with him and explained more fully what it means to become a Christian and at that, he immediately responded with a heart-felt cry for me to pray with him to give his heart to Jesus. I led him to the Lord there and then and gave him a Bible and some follow up material and at the end of the session he went on his way rejoicing! Please pray for “C” as he continues with us in the chapel services that he will grow from strength to strength in the Lord.
God was at work; He had this man in mind for that day and our conversation would not have been possible had the usual number of people attended. I was reminded of an anonymous poem I heard many years ago, the truth of which has always been a great encouragement to me.
Disappointment - His appointment
Change one letter then I see
That the thwarting of my purpose
Is God's better choice for me
His appointment must be blessing
Though it may come in disguise
For the end from the beginning
Open to His wisdom lies
- Anon.
